PROJECT DESCRIPTION. The project involved the construction of a real estate complex on the hills of Bologna, replacing a manor house.
THE PROBLEM. Architecturally, the new building was embedded within the hill, requiring vertical excavation faces greater than 10 meters in height. Additionally, the old villa interfered with the new construction, and the apparently stable foundation soil was particularly sensitive to water ingress, causing uncertainty regarding the stability of the excavation faces and the foundation level.
THE SOLUTION. A Berliner wall with anchors at multiple levels and a pile foundation was constructed. The building was then erected separately from the excavation face to avoid exerting pressure on the wall of the new building.
