Villa Aldini (BO)

Villa Aldini (BO)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION. Villa Aldini, located on the hills of Bologna, with its neoclassical façade, overlooks the city as envisioned by the Napoleonic lawyer Aldini at the time of its construction in the early 1800s. Protected by the Heritage Authority, it incorporates the Romanesque church of the Rotonda, the only part that survived the demolition of the original monastic complex during the villa's construction.

THE PROBLEM. The project aimed to refurbish the building to host a new museum, conference rooms, and other cultural activities. To achieve this, it was necessary to enhance the structural safety of the building, particularly its seismic resistance. The challenges included stabilizing the pediment, reconstructing the roof, consolidating the large decorated attic vaults, and addressing other minor local structural issues.

THE SOLUTION. The decision was made to work in the space between the roof and the attic, introducing spatial trusses to brace the unstable parts to the stable ones. The work was completed with the design of a new wooden roof and other repair and connection works.
